Vehicle Decal Care:

Before Applying Decals on Vehicles:
Before having decals applied to a vehicle, make sure the vehicle is clean of all dirt. Do not use Windex or waxes on the vehicle begore having the decals applied. This will cause damage to the decals and takes longer to apply.

Storing Decals on Vehicles:
Vinyl graphics, like paint, break down after prolonged exposure to the sun and other pollutants. Decals on hoods, trucks, and roofs of cars are more likely to break down faster. Whenever possible, store the vehicle in a garage, carport, or in a shaded area during the day. When a garage is not available, consider using a car cover to protect the decals from sun exposure, rain, hail, and other factors. If the decals start to discolor, turn brown, or break apart, immediately remove the decals. This makes it easier to replace the decals and protects the vehicle’s paint from staining. Never use Windex on vehicle graphics.

Wash Regularly
Wash the vehicle whenever it appears dirty. Dirt, grit, and grime allowed to remain on the decals may be more difficult to remove later. Rinse off as much dirt as possible with a watering hose. Use a wet, non-abrasive detergent and a clean cloth or sponge. Rinse thoroughly with clean water. To reduce water spotting, immediately use a silicone squeegee to remove water and dry with a microfiber cloth.

Automated Car Washes
Vinyl decals may run through a car wash. Touch less car washes are the best for decals. Brush car washes may cause dulling, scratches, lifting edges, and loss of decals.

Pressure Washing
Although hand washing a vehicle is the preferred cleaning method, pressure washing may be used under the following conditions:
  • Ensure the water pressure is kept below 2,00 psi (14 MPa)
  • Keep the water temperature below 180 degrees fahrenheit  (80 degrees celsius)
  • Use a spray nozzle with a 40 degree wide angle spray pattern.
  • Keep the nozzle at least 1 foot away from the decals and at 90 degrees.
Note: Not keeping the nozzle at 90 degrees will cause the decals to lift at the edges.

Difficult Contaminants
Soften difficult contaminants, such as bugs, birds droppings, tree sap, and others by soaking them for several minutes with hot, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. If further cleaning is needed, test a cleaning product in a small unnoticeable area of the decals. Do not use rough scrubbing or abrasive tools. This will scratch off the decals. Wash and rinse off all residue immediately.

Fuel Spills
Wipe off fuel spill immediately to avoid degrading the decals or the adhesive. Wash, rinse, and dry normally after cleaning off the fuel.
